IVF and ICSI

In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) and Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI) are advanced assisted reproductive technologies (ART) designed to support couples in achieving pregnancy. While both aim to facilitate fertilization, the methods differ:

IVF
  • In this process, mature eggs are collected from the ovaries and combined with sperm in a lab dish, allowing fertilization to occur naturally, similar to the process in the fallopian tubes. IVF is commonly recommended for various fertility challenges, such as ovulation issues or unexplained infertility.
ICSI
  • ICSI is a more targeted technique, especially useful in cases of male infertility. A single viable sperm is directly injected into the egg’s cytoplasm using a fine needle. This approach bypasses natural fertilization and ensures that fertilization takes place.

Embryo Freezing

Embryo freezing, also known as embryo cryopreservation, involves preserving fertilized eggs by freezing them for future use. This method allows couples or individuals using donor sperm/eggs to create embryos now and use them later. It’s commonly used to store surplus embryos from an IVF cycle, which can then be thawed for future attempts. Embryo freezing is also a key option for those wishing to preserve fertility until they are ready to begin their family journey.

Laparoscopy

Laparoscopy has revolutionized the diagnosis and treatment of female infertility. This minimally invasive surgery involves a thin, lighted tube with a camera to view the pelvic organs. Through small incisions, doctors can closely inspect the uterus, fallopian tubes, and ovaries to identify conditions such as endometriosis, blockages, or scar tissue that may impact fertility. In many cases, these issues can be treated during the same procedure. With quicker recovery times than traditional surgery, laparoscopy is a valuable tool in a woman’s fertility care plan.

Hysteroscopy

Hysteroscopy is a minimally invasive technique used to examine the interior of the uterus using a thin, lighted scope. It helps detect and evaluate potential fertility barriers like fibroids, polyps, or uterine adhesions. Typically performed as an outpatient procedure, it involves minimal downtime. Optimizing the uterine environment through hysteroscopy can significantly enhance the success of fertility treatments such as IVF or ICSI. At Aadira, we combine expert care with advanced technology to provide thorough evaluations tailored to your individual fertility needs.

Tests for Tubal patency

Several tests can assess tubal patency, with laparoscopy with chromopertubation being considered the gold standard. Other methods include Hysterosalpingography (HSG) and Sonosalpingography (SSG).

Here's a more detailed look at each:

Aadira Kidney Care
Laparoscopy with Chromopertubation
  • Description: This involves using a small camera (laparoscope) inserted through a tiny incision in the abdomen to visualize the pelvic organs. Dye is injected into the uterus, and the flow of dye through the tubes can be observed directly, confirming patency.
  • Advantages: Widely accepted as the gold standard for accuracy.
  • Disadvantages: More invasive, requires general anesthesia, and can be more expensive.
Aadira Kidney Care
Hysterosalpingography (HSG)
  • Description: An X-ray procedure where a dye is injected into the uterus and the flow through the tubes is visualized on X-ray.
  • Advantages: Less invasive than laparoscopy, readily available.
  • Disadvantages: Involves radiation exposure, and may be less accurate than laparoscopy.
Aadira Kidney Care
Sonosalpingography (SSG)
  • Description: An ultrasound procedure where a solution is injected into the uterus, and the flow through the tubes is visualized using ultrasound.
  • Advantages: No radiation exposure, and can be used to assess the uterus and tubes simultaneously.
  • Disadvantages: May be less accurate than laparoscopy, and the interpretation of results can be subjective.
Other methods:
  • HyCoSy (Hysterosalpingo Contrast Sonography): A specialized ultrasound technique using a contrast agent to assess tubal patency.
  • Saline Infusion Sonohysterography (SIS): Uses ultrasound to visualize the uterus and fallopian tubes after saline infusion.
